US Truck Modelling mag...
on: November 20, 2014, 10:15:59 AM
Gent's, I thought that after reading a few threads on this forum (changes afoot at TMW etc) that this might just catch some peoples attention.

The following was recently posted on a US based model truck forum (Construction & Transportation Equipment Model Builders Club (aka CTEMBC)):

*ATTENTION FELLOW TRUCK MODEL BUILDERS***Joe Whitman had a telephone conversation with long time friend, Mark Savage, last night.
His magazine project is ready to launch but he has yet to receive enough interest in order to start publishing. I was very surprised to learn this from him.
As many of you know, Mark is a professional model builder with over 30 years experience. He is also an expert on Off Highway, Oil Field and Logging trucks.
This magazine could be a tremendous source of reference material and "how to" articles that would benefit everyone in our hobby. It would be a tragedy to lose this fantastic opportunity.
Please contact Mark Savage soon to show your support and interest.
Thank You!

Contact Mark at - savagemodels@peoplepc.com

come on men u heard it from Joe ,and what he forgot to mention is he will also be releasing his product line that he has in the last catalog if enough interested..as soon as i get a copy i will post it..so please e-mail Mark, this will be a great magazine and parts for your rigs..

Read more: http://rustycab.proboards.com/thread/9704/new-magazine?page=1#ixzz3JbOMukbO

As the thread suggests, please contact Mark Savage via the email address listed and let him know if you're interested.

It'd be so much easier if they just made kit's of this thing.

The only problem with a US model truck mag is it will more than not sway towards US trucks and Euro spec trucks will be shunned to one side like a lepper.
Myself I have no issue about that as I like both US and Euro but some builders may be a bit taken back as some builders build Euro and only Euro and look at US trucks as smog monsters.
Just like some US truck builders look at Euro trucks as not being a proper truck because it,s not double drive.
All you have to do is look at when Renault,s were badged as Mack,s and DAF,s were badged as Kenworth,s.
The die hard,s were not half kicking up a stink saying they had been with them since the dawn of time blah! blah! blah! and they would never go back.
So some of these folk,s may not be to amused if folk,s from Europe ect.... start to invaded there mags with Volvo.s , Scania,s and Merc,s and the like.

I know of past bad deals on ebay how petty some folk from America can be. Not stating every one is just some.

Oh put me down to -1000 karma if you like I don,t care I,m just having my say and I speak my mind.

I can,t does not exist.
I can if I realy try.

Sorry mate, I've been that busy lately I've been neglecting the forums and didn't realise it had already been posted.

The only problem with a US model truck mag is it will more than not sway towards US trucks and Euro spec trucks will be shunned to one side like a lepper.

And how many feature articles were there on Kenworths, Peterbilts & Macks in TMW for those of us who aren't in the UK or Euro regions? I'm in Australia, I drive a 6x6 Mack that has a tare weight of 19t and a GCM of 125... do you think I give two whoots about a "tiny" 4x2 Merc, Daf or Volvo that probably weighs less than my running gear..? No! But I've still been a subscriber to the magazine for 7 years now and I still read the articles all the same, and I know a lot of fellow Australian, New Zealand and yes, even American readers who feel the same.

Did you stop the think that some of the US modellers 'shun' the UK & Euro spec trucks is because they've been ignored and shunned by people in those areas for so long? Aside from the Moebius kits, when was the last time a new tooling US or Australian spec model was released? If you want to build a model of a truck you see down the road, you can go and buy an off the shelf kit an make custom decals for it, or worst case, buy some custom PE for the badging... we have to buy RHD conversions, dual drive conversions, bull bars, extra fuel tanks, often entirely different cabs or bonnets (the Mack Trident I'm building required an Italeri donor and around $300 worth of resin to get it close to accurate).

It'd be so much easier if they just made kit's of this thing.

Tony, the point of this new magazine is that it will ONLY feature US style trucks, whatever country they are in, Australia, Europe etc. There are many of us outside America who like to model these trucks which is why Ryan and I have both posted this information, to try and get support as to be honest, there hasn't been a great response from American forums so far according to Mark. I have had a couple of emails with him and he was hoping for a much bigger response than he has had but maybe that is just the way magazines are going - hence TMW sales dropping and now going bi-monthly.

However, as Ryan also pointed out, methods and ideas can translate from one modelling genre to another.  I read Military modelling magazines and Railway modelling magazines - not because I model in these genres but because the techniques used can be transferred to my modelling.

What the hell do you think I have to buy Ryan. MY TRUCKS HAVE MORE AXLES ON THAN YOU CAN SHAKE A STICK AT!.
I can put 10 after market axle on a trailer alone at £12.50 each axle.
I BUILD HEAVY HAULAGE AND MAINLY ONLY HEAVY HAULAGE !!!.
I can put £ 300 that is $542 on a kit in resin wheels and tyres alone. so you ar,nt the only one every man jack who builds models face the same problem. Because if you think a Scania or Volvo kit comes with a RHD dash, double drive, twin steer and all the other bits and bobs your wrong.

It is like I said I SPEAK MY MIND AND DON,T CARE WHO I UPSET
                                                                                                     END OF.............................

I can,t does not exist.
I can if I realy try.

Think we are getting away from the subject here! All we want is for people who are interested in modelling US style trucks and would like to see a new magazine on the subject email Mark and register their interest.
