Wow! Tony, thanks for that.
My eyes nearly popped out when I saw the Austin Loadstar. All the main Austin dealers bought them in the 50`s. I worked at a dealership in Preston where we scrapped an Ex army Scammell for ours. All were painted in the same colours (plumb and cream) and although they look puny by today`s standards - there was nothing in the Austin range at that time of any real size or weight to contend with.

This is my favourite photo, this Diamond T is now stored at the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway on the A 590, and can be seen from the main road.

This was used on the Auckland Harbour bridge from its opening in 1959 until about the late 70's for removal of broken down vehicles, and also for firefighting.



along with a fleet of these Austin Gipsys? for pushing cars out of the lanes after breakdowns and accidents.
