Gaydon 2011
on: October 24, 2010, 11:02:04 AM
OK folks, I'd like to propose an official stand for Gaydon in 2011. Voyager had a superb stand last year and I sort of used it as a base for the weekend, but it would be nice to have a 1/24th Forum presence at this show. Looking through some of the posts on here over the past few weeks, there is an amazing amount of excellent builds which are only seen here or on other forums, let's take them out to the public and show what can be achieved with a little imagination and patience, take the hobby of truck modelling forward. What do you all think?

I haven't lost my mind, it's backed up on a memory stick somewhere!

Last year was my first show of any kind as exhibitor and pretty much turn up would be enough! Unless there are unforeseen circumstances I will be there. I know other members of the forum were there with individual displays or with friends so if we can get an indication of who would like to represent this forum, we can contact Ashley (the organiser) and ask him if we can have adjoining tables, that way we can have our own tables with a '24th scale forum theme' or mix and match if someone can't fill a table?

Last year the members of the TMW forum wore badges with their forum nickname and real name, but not a "together display".
Maybe we go a bit further on this forum and have a together display, you have my support!
In our club we have two of these displays

Maybe I can bring one for my models (two will be a bit too much, as I still need space in the car to sleep when I arrive  :D )

Count me out, as I have had my own space for years and loathe to give up,
but would/could offer models if needed to fill space

Well Ron, I also had my space there for over 20 years. But I see it more as we have one long table with this forum instead of being around all the hall.
IMO everyone should be free to show his own models in his own way, that's why I suggested I bring our club display stand for my models.
I just thought this would be interesting as I walk a lot around outside that weekend and the chair behind my table is most of the weekend empty. With a clubstand with let's say 5 members it should be possible that each member does a shift of one or two hours in the hall and is free for the rest of the time.
It just has to be well organised before.
How does that sound ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

Oi! I don't drink - well not really, one bottle and I'm away :D

I was thinking along the lines of Gerdi's suggestion, we have our own space but all together so we can watch out for each others models and also interact with the visitors and answer questions if someone has gone for a look around as I think one of the best things about these shows is the chance to inspire more truck modelling, rather than just going to show off. I was thinking we could have some sort of 'corporate look' for those who may want to have something, from a badge to a placard or whatever if wanted.

This is what I have been doing for years, at Gaydon, before that rugby, and even at Truckfest, and other model shows
4/5 of us have always looked after each others tables, easy to go for a walk, get something to eat/drink etc, were only a call
away if needed, then we also have the barbie and beer of an evening.

Well I already have my barbie and beer with the Manchester guys, but for the rest we have a separate stand.
I started coming at Crick, then Rugby, now Gaydon (only missed one because of illness, so that's well over 20 years now, I think I deserve a medal  ;D ) and most of the times I am next to Daniel Bazin, as I am the only one (I guess) speaking french and Daniels wife doesn't speak any english, so she was bored all the weekend.
In last years she brings a book and sits in the car reading or making crosswords.

Sue and I had the caravan this year for the weekend, bit of luxury but it allows us to be comfortable. Looking forward to next year.
