Here you will eventually find details of what is held by the Fire Services National Museum trust, find details of what's been happening behind the scenes over the past few years, and be informed about future events as we strive to build a home to house the vehicles and artifacts held by the Fire Services National Museum Trust.

Well, seeing that link is like coming home. I'm the webmaster for the site, unfortunately, it's suffered from a lack of information over the past couple of years, and before that it just hund in cyberspace when the previous webmaster got fed up and left it to its own devices. When I joined the Fire Service in 1974, there were already moves to build a National Fire Museum. Unfortunately, red tape and lack of money have ensured that a permanent home for the museum is still being sought. The museum has had several temporary homes, at the moment we have a temporary site at Weedon in Northamptonshire. The history of firefighting is an amazing story, and the vehicles used now are totally different to those used over the past 60 or so years. The museum has a store of vehicles ranging from the hand pumps, through to steam and mechanical vehicles all waiting their turn to be renovated, unfortunately the public are not allowed onto the site. There are some photographs on the site of the vehicles held and I make the occasional trip to Weedon to photograph others. If I can help with anyone wishing to model Fire Appliances, please ask, I may have the information you require or know where to find it.

I haven't lost my mind, it's backed up on a memory stick somewhere!

The site is not insured for visitors nor is there anywhere to display or view any of the exhibits. There is just an administration office, two workshops and several areas where vehicles are stored. The site is shared by a transport and storage company, therefore not a public site and any access is restricted.

You may be able to help me Strobe???

I recently purchased the Revell Unimog snowplough kit. I know Northants FB have one of these as a sort of specialised off road rescue unit. I fancy making this but need pictures/info on it. Research tells me that its based at Mereway, Northampton. Do you know anyone I could contact regarding this or even to plan a visit to take pictures???  ::)

My plan is to build it and donate it to them to hopefully raise a bit of cash. Great job that you all do.

Joe, contact Northampton Fire & Rescue. Explain what you want to do and ask if a visit could be arranged to the station to photograph the appliance. Brigades are usually very helpful, especially if you say please, I was always showing folks around the station and appliances at Long Eaton. I'll have a trawl through some of the sites I frequent and hopefully come up with a few pictures for you.
