MAFVA Nationals
on: June 14, 2011, 10:34:41 AM
It's the MAFVA (Miniature Armour Fighting Vehicle Association) Nationals this weekend, held at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford. If you're interested in heavy military transport, this is the show to go to. I'll be looking to photograph a couple of vehicles this weekend, the AEC Matador and the Bedford QL. There's usually lots of other stuff in attendance worth looking over ...

... well worth a visit, and there's more vehicles on show in the Land Warfare Hall. If you've never been to the show before, it's an excellent visit. We're usually treated to a visit from one or more of the aircraft of the BBMF, you can always tell when they're due, the whole site goes quiet as thousands of visitors look to the skies and listen for the sounds of a Merlin engine in full chat ... brings a tear to my eye.

Yes I'm there all weekend. The setup for the show is Saturday which is not open to the public, although I believe the Duxford museum is open. The show starts on Sunday morning when the marquee is open and the vehicles start to arrive. Pop into the model tent, I should be on the IPMS Armour Tas stand, you may find a couple of Wallace and Gromit specials on show?

Hi Nick, I`m not sure if the RAF had any, but I`d appreciate a shot of an Antar if any are there.

Jim, the Antar usually turns up at Beltring carrying a Centurian, if it's there this year I'll get a few shots of it for you.

Silly me ... of course, i'll load them. Sorry Jim, didn't get the chance to nip over to the Land warfare hall to photograph the Antar, but it usually turns up at Beltring, if it does, i'll get a good walk around. There were several surprises this year at Duxford like this Scammell Pioneer TRMU/30 which was used at the Marchwood Dock complex in Southampton for winching duties, used well into the 90's ...

No problem Joe, Beltring is just three weeks away, I think I'd better clear the memory cards.

Most of the big Russian stuff is big booted, there's loads of it at Beltring, I end up walking around the exhibition fields for at least two hours with my camera each evening after the show.
