Peter White and Kim Ashton have developed a new free to use website to show pictures taken over the years of truck models.
So far there are around 2000 images on the site, with probably 10,000 at least to come!
We want to put something back into the hobby, and this is our way of doing it. Pictures are grouped in albums under truck manfacturers' names, and you can search under keywords for scale, type of model, modeller's name etc. You can also leave a comment if you wish.
The site is at www.truckmodelarchive.com (http://www.truckmodelarchive.com)

Nice to see it coming together Peter, just registered

Brilliant work Peter, I'm always struggling to show people my models, having to search through my phone or forums and whatnot, this is just the business, keep it up!
-
brilliant Peter :bravo: i like the way you can search for the builder, company name, truck type ect
-
all we need now are hyperlinks so we can post then into posts
-
Nice to see the quality of the pictures and great layout !!!!!!!!
How far back do you reckon the archives go ?????

Thanks for the positive comments.
we have pictures going right back to the early years of TMW and model shows, so there's about 20+ years worth. It will take a lot of work to get them all on the site.
Before digital photography most were done on 35mm transparencies, so in order to digitise them Kim has to re-photograph each tranny. All credit to him, its a hell of a task.
Generally speaking, almost all the pictures that have appeared in the magazine should appear in due course (if I live long enough that is!)
Peter
-
Would it not be easier to scan in the transparencies using a flatbed scanner with transparency attachment? I know my scanner had an attachment that allowed me to scan transparencies and even 35mm negatives.

Bren
Apparently the quality isn't as good doing it that way (so I'm told)

This is great Peter!! Thank you for the service!!

Peter and Kim, THANK YOU. Your care and willingness to help our hobby is to be commended.

One of these might do the trick (one of them has a 20Mp output which certainly cant be sneezed at).

Thanks Ryan, all the 35mm stuff has now been digitised, just a question now of finding time to get it all on the site.
we added another 200 images over the weekend.

Thank you from me too for building such a terrific tool. One that will be welcomed by many builders.
I know what Peter means when he says he`ll not see the end of the venture. I`m in a similar position at the museum with 20+ years of work still to do on Scammell alone.

I suppose, the question has to be asked, what does someone with the forum 'ranking' of Junior Member really know about Model Trucks though... I mean come on, has anyone actually checked this Peter Whites credentials (if that is his real name)? :shit:

Tee hee Ryan
I am still awaiting my medals in the post !!!!!!!!
I am sure it must be when I rescued that cat out of the tree !!!!!!!!
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK PETER on the photos and to Admin for this fine site !!!!!!!

Another 700 pictures have now been added.
We are thinking about adding words to some of the albums. Bearing in mind most have already appeared in TMW as articles, what do people think? They'd only be brief descriptions not thousands of words.
Also, would people be interested in including their own pictures on this site? This is just sounding out views, mind, not a definite commitment. We'd have to think it through as there are all sorts of implications. Just testing the water.

i wouldn't put too many words on, as they say the photos say all that needs to be said. including new photos from people is a good idea but you would need to keep up the professional look of the site so i would imagine lots of user photos would be rejected to to poor quality
-
We've just hit the 5,000 mark with pictures on the site. Still thousands more to come!
peter
-
Come on pete, what you messing about at   .
-
I see this has now passed the 10,000 picture milestone. Nice work Peter, keep it up! Are there many left? Still a few of mine not on there!
-
Thousands more still to come when time allows. Its pretty labour intensive adding keywords and tagging everything but we are getting there.
I'd be interested in any feedback or comments from anyone.
peter
-
Just not quite enough keywords, I know there are quite a few of mine on there not tagged  Otherwise absolutely fine the way it is, a brilliant resource for me
-
Your effort in compiling this brilliant resource cannot be applauded enough. :bravo: :bravo: :bravo:
With regards to a proposed `free to post pictures` suggestion, my advice would be to FORGET IT. A high standard would be quickly diluted - resulting in a lowering of the quality you have obviously striven to achieve
-
Thanks for that.
Picture quality is a concern, so if we do go down that route, any submitted would be checked first. We wouldn't allow people to post directly onto the site.
Got to get the rest of our own stuff on first though!
-
What a great project. I"ve already registered and proud to have some of my models already on the site.
Thanks Peter and Kim? If I can be of any help, just let me know.
