Could always get the train
-
If I can manage Gaydon, Huddersfield should be a walk in the park.
It`s now in my diary, PROVIDING that 1:24 trucks are well represented. (the photo looked to be full of aircraft).
-
there was a few of us there last year Jim. not sure i can make it this year due to other commitments
-
I`m trying to convince the powers that be that it would be a good day out  hopefully i`ll be there
-
Check if Wolfie is displaying the truck sig Jim, he usually does and gets Alan, Andy etc to bring models to display. Pete Reddish is usually there with the "Manchester model truck club" but not sure this time, then there may be Nick with some trucks, especially if Paul Findon goes too. I'm sure they will all be along to let you know. HOWEVER like all IPMS shows, they represent the modelling classes that are popular so yes, they are largely aircraft and AFV's but you will get to talk to the guys from the forum and possibly pick up some models and tools
-
Thanks for the info Andrew, much appreciated.
I hesitated simply because the truck section on the IPMS forum is as barren as the moon and every time I post there, interest in trucks appears to be almost nil.
From what you say though, a visit sounds like being worthwhile.
-
This is about an hour and a half drive South for me - but my nearest event, so I've got the date ringed on the calendar.
I have to agree, the IPMS site is a bit quiet.
-
Well there is likely to be a contingent from "up there" (even if Steve can't make it) so maybe you could all arrange a coach party
As for trucks on the IPMS site, another bit of a sore point really I think. We have a previous runner of the Truck SIG (Nick) and the current one (Chris/Wolfie) who have both done their best to try and increase the interest but it is quite a small part of modelling in general so the traffic on there is probably right as a percentage. That's why we all congregate HERE
-
Andrew, I don`t envy the moderators their task and it`s not their fault if people don`t want to participate. I should imagine that it`s like getting blood out of a stone at times.
-
Well I've booked.
Need something to motivate me again
.Pete
-
thats good to hear Pete
-
We`ll motivate you, see you there Pete.
I`m going to unload a few kits and thought it may be a good idea to list them ,nearer the time, to see if anyone going to Huddersfield is interested in any of them.
-

Good stuff
-
The IPMS 'Beyond the BOX' SIG will be there, hopefully Paul Findon will be with me on the stand with a couple of his Bedford conversions and maybe both the new Emhar Bedfords, which incidentally are imminent!
-
the tyneside and durham club have been invited to this show again. i have sent the forms back asking for the maximum 4 tables. we will probably get the same as last year 2 which means there will still be some space for a few of you to bring some models along if we get the full allocation i'll let you know. so far we my me and tony going anybody else who is interested just add your name to this thread and we'll take it from there.

Is there any styrene for sale at this Show? I`m due for a restock and will hold off ordering any if there are bargains to be had.
-
Theres usually a couple of stands selling it Jim, might see you there
-
One week to go chaps, anyone else visiting or displaying? I'll be there early Sunday hopefully with the girlfriend and possibly a university friend that's keen to get into modelling, sadly planes rather than t
trucks but it's a start!
-
Yes i will be there. Its the first time attending due to work commitments. Hopefully i will see some of you there.

If Mr Models is attending he usually has a good stock. I'll be there Jim if you need anything specific please let me know, I have a small stash of plastic sheet
-
If the other half finishes work early enough we might have a ride over. Could do with some plastic and bits and pieces!
-
I'll be there.
Dragging a couple of the lads along with me. (Big Dave & the scottish lads)
Nope I still built nothing new.
.Pete. :embarrassed:
-
Won't be visiting this year lads......you'll be pleased to hear

Sorry to hear that Tim!
-
Glad i saw this now, saw some cracking models of all genres! Given me a but of inspiration to crack in with the fm9! Even saw a sensibly priced f12!!
-
Good to see Alan and Jim and purchased a reasonably priced Volvo for a future project. Not many trucks at the show this year and there's a rumour that the show is moving ... we'll see next year!
-
Could'nt get there
Everything went tits up
.Pete.
-
I couldnt make it either. Hope some of you got a bargain. I was hoping to catch up with nick and meet some new truck modellers.
-
well the truck stand that was there did the1/24scale proud
and the one entered in the compertion was a first.
-
Sounds like a mixed bag from you guys, any pictures? As for moving, that has been on the cards for several years now, Tesco are supposed to be having the site, be good to be rid of those eyesore tower blocks
-
Although I enjoyed the visit and meeting some familiar exhibitors, I found the show to be a mirror image of my local IPMS club - 60% aircraft, 30% tanks and everything else making up the final 10%.
Having said that, there were some cracking builds on the `Beyond the Box` and the 1:24th truck tables. :bravo:

Jim, EVERY model show will reflect the state of the hobby and it's level of interest, and that includes local shows and the biggest of them all SMW. Pleased you enjoyed the exhibits on the 'Beyond the Box' stand
-
it was nice to meet up with nick and the others and one or 2 bargains made their way into the stash . one thing that did disappoint was the number of empty tables. there was definately plenty of interest on our display tonys heavy hauler proving very popular at the end of the day you can only paint a plane one or 2 colours
alan

... you can only paint a plane one or 2 colours
alan
Each to their own Alan, there's room for everyone. Incidentally, have you seen some of the colour schemes of modern civilian aircraft? ... not to mention the military stuff!
-
Yep, even one type of combat aircraft comes in many colours
(http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q220/Milnerpics/IPMS%20model%20show%20Huddersfield%202011/IMG_6076.jpg)
But that still makes for a boring display for the general visitor - unless you are a Phantom (or any of the other one make SIGs) fan, then you do as I did here (and saw many do - this was last year), glance at them and walk on. Yes, people can model what they want but when it comes to exhibiting to the paying public, needs more thought I think

Cheers Alan I think on the whole we all had a good day. I know I did even though I only took a 2nd place in the competition it,s not about the winning I only entered for the fun and to see how the IPMS would take to a knacker wagon at the show.  .
I also took that bloke up on the £35 challenge Alan and came up trumps I got the Bedford Wrecker for it but he would not drop the Tanker to it not even when I offered him £70 for the pair. Well some you win some you lose.
-
So you were actually there in person were you Tony? :headache:
I gave searching after the third circuit. The chap who was looking after your Bedford and caravan told me to try the truck table (again) and they didn`t know where you`d disappeared to either.
Still there`s always Gaydon - perhaps!!!!
-
There were bargains to be had Jim. Had to do a Lord Lucan to snap them up so there was a good chance you may have walked by me while I had me head buried in a pile of boxes like a pig snuffling for a truffle.
Will see you at Gaydon I,ll try to keep in my table proximity mate but doubt it if there,s a bargain to be had but I,ll try me best.

he was in the car park with his girlfriends :lipsrsealed:

I haven't displayed at Huddersfield for a couple of years now because its too crowded.
As for the IPMS forum, it is quiet but we used to post on there a lot. Its suffering the same fate as quite a few others. There are now too many places to post. Theres there, theres here, TMW forum, various Facebook groups and other forums. I can only post on so many.
I'm having the same problem with a local bikers forum I run in North Yorkshire. We have a Facebook page and about 98% of business gets done there. The forum is about dead but there are still a handful of folk who aren't on Facebook so I have to keep it open.
-
its face book it evil  and the strange thing is people don't realise just how much info is being gathered by FB
-
Totally agree. That Farcebook thingy should be stoned like a heathen. Tis the work of the devil. It,s now,t but a gossip page for a nest of viper to hiss about other folk instead of getting the gut to say what they think about somebody to there face like a true MAN!!.

Well the IPMS facebook page is growing very well and it's popular for erm ... modellers sharing the hobby, the only people who are on the page are the folks who WANT to be there. It has a very strong International membership which makes it thrive. The IPMS Forum is dying a slow and horrible death and I came off it recently due to a series of posts from someone who just used it as his own whinge page, but there ya go. Facebook isn't for everyone but I find it useful and informative. One of the things which used to annoy me about the TMW forum were the folks who simply thought that if they had an opinion about something they could just say what they felt no matter who it upset, that was morally wrong and I haven't been on the site in ages. This forum is like a breath of fresh air, it's informative, helpful and above all friendly and long may it be so.
