Title: Gaydon 2013 comments and thoughts!
Post by: voyager on January 21, 2013, 01:09:16 PM
I have received the paperwork from Ashley for this years' show  Unfortunately my scanner is playing up so I will list the salient points here and will have a sticker thread once I can get them copied.

The show is on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th June. This year there will be NO Sunday only exhibitors, you must be able to attend for the weekend. Entry to the exhibition hall on Saturday is 08.00 to 11.00 only - no vehicles allowed to enter after 11.00. Sunday arrival times 08.00 to 09.30 only, no vehicle movement after 09.30.

I will again be asking for 5 tables for the 'club'. Last year we had an extra due to one of Pete's club not attending but due to over subscribing, we may not even get the 5. In light of this and in our usual aim of encouraging the hobby, the "management " have decided to offer space on our tables initially to those who have not exhibited before. We had a ball last year and there MAY be space for some or all of those who were with us last year, depending on requests from newbies. We are putting this up as early as possible to allow those who wish to ask Ashley for their own tables if they prefer. Because we need to give everyone as much chance as possible to display, either individually or with us, we need to get names buttoned up early. Although Ash has given quite a late date for entries, I am suggesting we have it finalised by the end of February.

Last year - my fault - when we arrived there was no plan as to who displayed what and where. Although we sort of got it done in the end, this year once we have our names, we will ask for details of models you wish to display and you will be allocated a space. This could be as little as half a table depending on attendees.

Please note also this year, I will only be asking Ash for entry wristbands for THE EXHIBITORS, not for friends and family. Bring them by all means but unfortunately you will have to pay entrance fees for them (or they pay for themselves ) as it cuts down on the entries available for other exhibitors.

Right, over to you guys - I'll post the actual forms ASAP

With all the newbie ( Gaydon Virgins ) that the forum has  :cheesy: and the fact that I was `broken ` in last year by all the friendly lot that was there, I will look at trying for my own table this year to make way for someone else to proudly display,

For those that are thinking about displaying but have doubts I say go for it and enjoy been with a great group of people for the weekend and the buzz of seeing people admire your work

Does anyone know if  the local hotels fill up early, always assuming there are some? A Premier Inn perhaps?

There is a hotel the exhibitors stay at in Leamington Spa which I believe are preferential rates and of course there will be many model truck makers there ( that may or may not be a good thing!) Again, I will get the scans done soon as...

I've stayed at the Leamington Spa hotel the last two years, tend to go elsewhere to find an evening meal, back for a pint then early to bed!  I haven't seen my post yet, (and won't for a couple of weeks yet judging by the weather  ) but from what I can gather the new rules say we have to be there by 11am on the Saturday?

Due to changes in circumstances i should now be free to attend this show. So i am putting it my diary now. I may even consider displaying something ( if i have one finished lol)

Well Gareth if you want to display with us, we will need a commitment! If you want to go it alone you need to contact Ashley ashleycoghill  "@" aol.com for entry forms!

Once we get confirmation of number of tables we can say how many we can fit in but for now we just need notice of intent - but we will need to know for sure by the end of Feb. I did mention other members displaying on the tables last year but he rightly said no as he had to turn exhibitors away he didn't want those not 'booked in' displaying.

With us I'm hoping to get it sorted by the end of Feb. I think Ashleys' actual deadline for paperwork is late April but I'm at work at the moment so can't check

If that's the one on the road between Gaydon and Banbury then yes, I've stayed there. It was only the one night while passing through but it was certainly up to their usual standards.

I'm not sure where to stay this year, maybe the Premier Inn at Warwick as it's only a couple of junctions up the motorway so not too far.
It all depends on whether I display anything or not. I have asked Ashley about a table but haven't heard from him yet.

as I said, I was the very first to reply the email, maybe I took the whole hall ?

another thought from my side (and maybe a stupid one).
Is there anybody looking for a single room in a b&b or hotel?
Because here in Belgium some places dare to charge around 10-15 euro extra for a single room.
I'm coming alone, and am not staying on the camping site, thus looking for a place to stay (I follow your comments on hotels and so), so instead of spending extra money for a single room, why not share a double room with someone (only the room, not the bed of course  ),
and spend the extra money on some thing else?

hi guys: Firstly sorry if I'm "not around here" very often. It's nothing personal, I'm not on the TMW forum very often either.

All the Gaydon info/forms has now been posted out to regular exhibitors.
I have received 3 or 4 enquiries from members of this forum recently and all those info requests will be posted out tomorrow (Monday 28th).

PLEASE BE AWARE:- As a "club" and strictly speaking, you should all display together on allocated tables. However I fully understand that there are many members and you probably wouldn't all get on those tables!  Therefore, I have sent out some "individual" entry forms, but may not have many more opportunities to do so due to high demand to attend the show from other exhibitors.

As for not being able to contact me, I cannot answer that. I check my email inbox every day and will reply within a maximum of 2/3 days to every single email.

ashleycoghill@aol.com

Thanks to Voyager for posting all the info so far. It will be great to have such a well supported "club" with us at Gaydon.

All I can reiterate is, please don't leave it too late to decide if you want to attend or not. Give Andrew as much notice as you can. Space this year will be very limited due to Gaydon HMC "rules"  We have been "capped" with the amount of tables so I may...and I stress MAY.....have to cut some peoples requests for table space down a little depending on demand.
It will be another fantastic festival whatever HMC throw at us!!!!

Anyone got any queries PLEASE don't hesitate to contact me via email.

See you all at Gaydon

did you book the room at the travelodge gerdi? as the price will go up soon and may end up at about £60 per night. for ferries i always use dfds from dover dunkerque but i do not always book direct with them for my trip in march i used moneysupermarket.com and got a very good price.

No Alan, I checked the link you gave, but I don't see the Travelodge, I only see these hotels (the first one is indeed @£33, but it's not the Travelodge):

The Regent Hotel Leamington Spa from £33.00 per room per night

Further there are:

Coventry Binley from £22.00 per room per night
Rugby Dunchurch from £20.00 per room per night
Stratford Upon Avon from £52.00 per room per night
Rugby Central from £20.00 per room per night
Prices differ quite a bit (from 20 to 52  )

Not sure whether this is a "forum joke" or a serious question...... but there is NO category for "group build" so not possible to enter it. Sorry.
If we put the suggestion out to the other clubs, maybe a "group build" category could be included next year....

If anyone is thinking of takingh a caravan to Gaydon there is a good site nesrby called Harbury Fields, it is a licensed site and part of the Caravan Club, non members welcome.
Just as a warning tho, someone has hacked into their web site and my virus checker blocked it.
If you need any more info. just ask. Have used it regularly and is a good site.
I have already booked

I prefer rolling out of the caravan on site and walking the short distance to the venue. I have everything in the van that I need including a well stocked beer fridge (usually).

Stop doing commissions and then you will have some instead of giving them up

congrats on the new job Keith  what are you doing ???
the bad news is we are fully booked and all the paper work and money sent off to Ash. last year was a pain for Andrew and this year due to us (the mods) trying to alter things was no better.
how many models are thinking of bringing ? i am sure (if your not bothered) we could split your builds between various tables either that or apply for your own table ???

Hi Steve no problem I was only going to bring 1 or 2 maybe a truck with low loader loaded with a London bus and a Fire Engine which I just messed the paint on, So tomorrow it's stripping time, My new job will be a shock to the system I am going to be a bench hand joiner after 30 years of being self employed although I haven't worked much the last year or 2, The body feels like a 55 year old Scania  "Knackered"

Hope you can come along Keith, be nice to see you unfortunately as Steve says the forum paperwork is all with Ash. As I have to get all the info etc from those with us, as soon as I do I get it sent off to give Ash as much time to process it as possible. I see Steve has suggested bringing a couple of models anyway but I mentioned this to Ash last year when we had a late request and he wasn't happy about the idea as he has to turn down several requests for tables and doesn't want bad feelings if people are yurning up with models who aren't "officially" registered. Hope the job leads to better things and we can see you as an exhibitor next year

Forgot to say, Gaydon stuff arrived with me on Monday but I'm in the Midlands this week so can't post it out to you all until the beginning of next week. I'm presuming the forums have gone quiet 'cos you are all busy trying to finish builds!

I must admit to hitting a very big wall myself - 20 days left, competitions entered and not one  model finished to take :bang head: :bang head: :bang head:

Two need spraying, but I always seem to be at work when the weather is any good for painting outside, with one that still hasn't been built.  I just don't seem to be able to find any mojo!! :embarrassed:

Unfortunately not anymore  The Vito did not pass technical control without a certain amount of costs (too many holes under, maybe of parking on english grass? ) I have now a smaller car and stay in the hotel.
